How's your heart feeling? Really?

Does that question shock you

because you don't really think about that?

Are you feeling disconnected from your heart

and haven't even realized it?

My heart is hurting. The world is feeling upside down and topsy-turvy.  Last summer I was feeling the same way. There were murders in the street and my heart went to fear and stayed there. I didn't have good answers for my kids and I felt the need to do something, but I didn't know what.

I'm so grateful and lucky to have a really powerful practice to fall back on. Yoga.

My teacher taught me that when my life, or the world feels nutty, I need to stand in love. I need to connect with the earth and feel my two feet planted firmly on the ground and I need to open my heart even more and I need to feel love as well as be a source of love for a world that can't feel it right now.

And here we are again. The world feels upside down and topsy-turvy again. The country I have grown up in and felt to be safe and full of freedoms not afforded the rest of the world, no longer feels that way. I'm full of fear for my neighbors, people I went to college with and my kids. I fear that this world is not going to be the safe haven for my children, that I've felt it to be growing up.

It hurts that we're so wounded right now. We can affect change. Our energy can shift the lives and the hearts around us. Come with me on this journey to heal.

On July 18th, at Om Tree Shala in Lawrence, I'm teaching the first of a series of workshops. Practices for Peace are heart opening, grounding, gently flowing and restorative practices that help us be better equipped to deal with this crazy world. I designed these practices for you and for me to help us open, relax, restore and rejuvenate because you and I have kids to hold on to, friends to laugh with and fear to push aside.

Invite your friends, your loved ones and your family. They don't need to be flexible, they don't need to have practiced yoga before. We all just need to be open to the practice and where it takes us.

Whether you're part of the FB community, get the newsletter or have been a student for years, you are part of the community. Join us, tell your family and friends and....just join us.

Nourishing Food Simplified
July 9,  1- 3p

Om Tree Shala

We all struggle with thinking up dinner ideas night after

night. If you have kids you may be cooking more than

one meal a night. It's hard. You may find yourself eating

restaurant food too often. With kids, that may

mean succumbing to too much fast food.

Join me July 9th at Om Tree Shala and we'll talk the yoga of eating and mindful food. I'll teach you how to establish healthy mealtime rituals. Learn techniques that simplify meal planning and preparation for you and those you eat with. Whether you are trying to create meals for your Shred10 or improve your everyday nutrition, this workshop will offer inspiration and tools to help you.

One of the very tricky things about traveling and teaching is being able to serve my communities well. In taking time to contemplate how best to do this a simple answer popped up. So here it is, my tentative travel schedule. These are the dates that I am available to teach small groups, give Ananda sessions, lead workshops (yes, you and your co-workers/family/friends can schedule a private workshop), do private sessions or schedule private cooking

Do you consistently feel overwhelmed and exhausted?
But then you can't sleep and toss and turn

throughout the night?

Do you have headaches, back pain and tight muscles? These are all the, sometimes debilitating symptoms, of anxiety and depression. I know, cause these are my symptoms.

I know what it's like to suffer and feel like there's no way out. I've felt helpless and hopeless. I promise you, it can get better.

I learned a long time ago to get on the mat and practice yoga  whenever I'm feeling frazzled, off-balance or worried.  Yoga changes my brain chemistry and helps with so many of those. Yoga changes my brain chemistry and helps with so many of those life-altering symptoms.Yoga helps release tension and soothe body aches, combat insomnia, so I can get a better quality of sleep. It increases circulation, digestion, concentration and decreases edginess, restlessness and irritability.

I created Yoga for Anxiety and Depression to teach you how to use yoga to manage.. In 2011 I had a really hard year, my anxiety got pretty big. I practiced dialectical behavioral therapy (dbt) and learned some incredibly helpful and powerful tools and skills to manage well on a daily basis. Now, Yoga for Anxiety and Depression includes all those new tools and skills.

Join me Saturday Feb. 18th in Lawrence, KS at the beautiful Om Tree Shala and on March 25th, in the intimate and peaceful space at A Yogi Kitchen in Salem, MA and I'll teach you how to make
you  life manageable and even joyful. I'll show you how to release body tension with gentle and restorative yoga. Learn which poses are especially helpful in soothing your nervous system and quieting your brain. We'll practice mindfulness tools to help you manage times of high emotion, shifting your brain chemistry. I'll teach you some of the dbt skills that you can use anywhere, anytime to make life manageable.

You'll walk away with a specific plan that you create to manage when the emotions get really big and life feels overwhelming. You'll also get my ebook, Anxiety to Ananda, a great resource as you move forward in managing your anxiety or depression.

ANYONE can practice yoga. Beginners are encouraged and teens are welcome. In Lawrence, you just need to show up. All props are provided. In Salem, you'll need to bring your own mat. Something to take notes with might be helpful. We'll take breaks and have a snack from the kitchen at A Yogi Kitchen!
